Client: | Terrasite |
Architect: | Wincer Kievenaar |
Contractor: | Redbourne Homes |
Key features
- Housing development of 52 high-quality homes in Creeting St. Mary
- Poor ground meant traditional foundation solutions couldn’t be used
- Vibration ground improvement techniques were used to enable use of shallow foundations with minimal reinforcement and avoided an expensive piled solution
- Magnitude of the existing slope on the site neighbouring the A14, and instances of slope failure in areas, called for a retaining wall design to allow construction of proposed houses near the boundary.
- A king post retaining wall system was adopted, prioritizing speed of installation.
- Retaining wall design consisted of an 85m long, steel column and prestressed concrete panel king post wall, partnered with a Flex MSE vegetated retaining wall system directly above, helping to reduce the slope gradient and improve the slope aesthetic.
- Further to this, sound barrier acoustic fencing was also required to reduce the impact of noise from the A14 on residents. We designed steel columns and associated foundations for this element.
